    1. COKerrek SB: Thank you for your comment. Sadly at this stage it's not feasible to change the stack, but I'd definitely agree with you that it'd be the more ideal way, and in future I think that's the way it's going to go. However at this stage I am forced to try to implement some security measures myself. I guess it'll be a good learning exercise, if anything. Ariel: I think I would be, yes. Protecting against someone impersonating a remote 'box' is something I would like to achieve. Edit: Thank you for the Wikipedia link; I shall be reading through that over lunch!

    2. COThanks, Nick - I'll post the layout and also verify what you've queried. Might have to wait until morning now - wife has demanded computer goes off :-)

    3. COThe ability to turn the device on from a completely off state (as opposed to any kind of OS 'sleep' state) would have to be performed not even by the basic OS (because it won't be running!) but at a very, very low hardware level by an RTC clock that remains powered, but consumes little battery power (like the RTC with battery backup on a PC motherboard). It'd be up to the individual hardware manuafacturer to implement it. It's a shame that Android phones don't seem to offer such functionality, as it'd be nice to be able to turn the phone completely off sometimes but still have working alarms!
