    1. COThank you very much for your answer and the link. But I still cannot get it to work. I see that he's also using servermanagercmd -install Desktop-Experience, but with the addition of the "-restart" option which I had not yet tried. I have created a new Azure project which only starts the elevated startup task with "servermanagercmd -install Desktop-Experience -restart". If I set taskType = "simple", then the worker role instance keeps Aborting and trying to restart in a never ending loop. If I set tasktype = "background", then the instance eventually becomes Ready, but

COdesktop experience has NOT been installed and the Event Viewer shows several errors in the Application log: Faulting application TrustedInstaller.exe, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e025c2, faulting module wmicmiplugin.dll, version 6.0.6002.18342, time stamp 0x4cd53a17, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000038a60, process id 0xa58, application start time 0x01cbd9b873a148f0. COI can also note that when opening Server Manager after the RDP works and the startup task has been run, then the server manager is unable to refresh/show the Roles Summary and the Features Summary. It just shows "Error" and at the bottom: "Last refresh: Failed". Obviously, something is going very wrong due to some unknown reason...
