I'm trying to create portable solution for running a program when my USB stick is plugged in. However, the only way that I could get it to run is to use sudo and to run the program from my user account as follows: <pre><code>/usr/bin/sudo -u *username* /usr/local/bin/*program* </code></pre> However, I want this solution to be portable, is there a command that exists so I can find the username always without having to type it? I tried using whoami and it simply didn't work. Also, finding the path to the named program would be a bonus too. Lets call it helloworld.jar **Note: I know how to find both of these things from the command line, but I'm struggling with how to put what they find as a command line argument. Thanks ahead of time for any help

1. COI'm actually on Ubuntu 10.04, but whoami isn't in my configuration either. Use plain "env" to see what environment you've got set up. USERNAME and LOGNAME are there for me.
