Uncaught exception handling is controlled first by the thread, then by the thread's ThreadGroup object and finally by the default uncaught exception handler. If the thread does not have an explicit uncaught exception handler set, and the thread's thread group (including parent thread groups) does not specialize its uncaughtException method, then the default handler's uncaughtException method will be invoked.</p> <p>By setting the default uncaught exception handler, an application can change the way in which uncaught exceptions are handled (such as logging to a specific device, or file) for those threads that would already accept whatever "default" behavior the system provided.</p> <p>Note that the default uncaught exception handler should not usually defer to the thread's ThreadGroup object, as that could cause infinite recursion.</p> </blockquote> <p>This is the best way to deal with fatal errors in a generic way, without losing the stacktrace that is associated with the source of the exception.</p>

    1. COThanks.Can you tell me under what situation(exceptions) a thread terminate abruptly?If nullPointerException occurs and I have not caught it,will it terminate that thread abruptly?And in the case of the Exceptions which doesn't teminate thread how can I log it?

    2. COWell, all uncaught exceptions lead to termination of the thread. So yes, an unhandled NullPointerException will terminate the thread it occured in.

    3. CO@Hulk So half of my problem is solved.Now how to handle the cases where Thread doesn't terminate but I want to log the exception..
