An excellent, and a highly recommended answer is immediately after this, so if you are looking for a good solution, please use that. This is a hackish solution that will not be kind to you at a later point of time.</p> <p>I feel your pain, I've had a lot of problems with the same error. The simplest way I solved it (and this might not be the best way, and it depends on your application) was to convert things to unicode, and ignore errors. It is NOT a great idea, it will screw things up if you are dealing with european and accented characters. However, this is something you can use if it is NOT production level code, if it is a personal project you are working on, and you need a quick fix to get things rolling. You will eventually need to fix it with the right methods, which are mentioned in the answers below.</p>

    2. COThis will use the default encoding, which is ASCII, and discard anything that can't be interpreted as ASCII. In other words, you will lose all of your accented or non-European characters. That seems like a really bad idea. -1.

    3. COThis is probably a bad idea, as you will corrupt your data by destroying every character that `decode()` can't match in ASCII in the source string. If you are writing this info to a database, data integrity is probably important to you. -1

Guidance
A row detail

Detail views are divided into sections. All the information in the data section comes from columns in the selected row. The other sections display data from other, related rows.

Related data can be related in a to-one or a to-many fashion. Captions of data related in a to-many fashion link to a list view showing a filtered view of the table.

Try moving around until you find a non-empty to-many entry and click on the label to get to one. You can move back to the root by clicking on the database name in the header.

SQuiL has stopped working due to an internal error.
