POWhy my program doesn't show compile time error when final class variable is not initialized?

copied!<p>For following code:</p> <pre><code>public class StaticFinal { private final static int i ; public StaticFinal() {} } </code></pre> <p>I get compile time error:</p> <pre><code>StaticFinal.java:7: variable i might not have been initialized {} ^ 1 error </code></pre> <p>Which is in accordance with <a href="http://docs.oracle.com/javase/specs/jls/se7/html/jls-8.html#jls-8.3.1.2" rel="nofollow noreferrer">JLS8.3.1.2</a> , which says that:</p> <blockquote> <p>It is a compile-time error if a blank final (§4.12.4) class variable is not definitely assigned (§16.8) by a static initializer (§8.7) of the class in which it is declared. </p> </blockquote> <p>So , the above error is completely understood.<br> But now consider the following :</p> <pre><code>public class StaticFinal { private final static int i ; public StaticFinal()throws InstantiationException { throw new InstantiationException("Can't instantiate"); // Don't let the constructor to complete. } } </code></pre> <p>Here, the constructor is never finished because <code>InstantiationException</code> is thrown in the middle of constructor. <em>And this code compiles fine!!</em> <br> Why is it? Why this code is not showing compile time error about the non initialization of <code>final</code> variable <code>i</code> ?</p> <p><br><strong>EDIT</strong><br> I am compiling it using <code>javac 1.6.0_25</code> on command prompt ( <em>Not using any IDE</em> )</p>
